LT DRRMC reiterates proactive measures
by Susan C. Aro / PIA

LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – The local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council reiterates measures to follow to mitigate the impact of any untoward incident with the onset of the rainy season.

DRRM officer Yoshio Labi said these include halt of unauthorized mining activities, preparation of evacuation centers, pre-emptive evacuation of families in danger zones, inspection of foot bridges along rivers and tributaries, placement of warning signs along danger zones, use of early warning systems, and prepare the go bag.

Beginning this month, continuous refresher courses on disaster management will be slated for barangays. To assess the capability of those involved, a disaster preparedness and safety skills olympics among barangays in town is slated July 30.

An evacuation drill is set from Little Kibungan in Puguis to the provincial evacuation center in Wangal.

The municipal government is also planning to forge a memorandum of agreement with the provincial government on the use of the newly-inaugurated evacuation center in Wangal.

Inspection of footbridges most especially small bridges along barangays and sitios is also important to ensure safety, he added.

Loaders are also stationed in critical areas as first aid measure to open closed roads.

Use of early warning systems to keep the public informed about weather disturbances is another step the DRRM is undertaking.
