Tineg women oriented on gender sensitivity
by PIA release

TINEG, Abra – Thirsty for knowledge and information and the ardent desire for community involvement and participation, women of Barangay Caganayan in this town convened to learn various issues and concerns that affect them.

Municipal Social Welfare Officer Miracle Esther Battawang organized the women for an orientation-seminar on gender and development (GAD) night of Feb. 6.

Philippine Information Agency-Abra Manager Maria Teresa B. Beñas served as resource speaker on GAD where she discussed gender roles, issues and concerns as well as laws and issuances on the protection and welfare of women and children in the country and in the international community.

The participants expressed their desire to learn more of the issues and issuances for the protection and welfare of women and children and how they could more effectively help carry out their role in their community as women leaders.

In the same forum, Felicidad Figuerres, focal person on women programs of the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office, enjoined the women of Caganayan to become members of the Kalipunan ng Liping Pilipina (Kalipi).

Figuerres explained Kalipi is the organization of women being assisted by the Department of Social Welfare and Development. She also expounded on the requirements and qualifications for membership and the benefits of joining Kalipi.

Battawang encouraged the participants to join Kalipi to upgrade their involvement and participation as an organization.
