FDA warns vs purchase of unregistered candy products
by Aileen P. Refuerzo / PIO

The Food and Drug Administration advised the public against purchase and consumption of certain candy products.

FDA Advisory No. 2018-018 warned against the consumption of Marlbovo Cigartte Candy, Winson Filters Cigartte Candy, Thillip Norris Cigartte Candy, Fortone Cigartte Candy, and Hoke Luxury Cigartte Candy.

The FDA said post-marketing surveillance (PMS) activities have verified that the food products have not gone through the registration process of the agency and have not been issued Certificate of Product Registration.

The agency said that pursuant to Republic Act 9711 or the Food and Drug Administration Act of 2009, the manufacture, importation, exportation, sale, offering for sale, distribution, transfer, non-consumer use, promotion, advertising, or sponsorship of any health product that is adulterated, unregistered, or misbranded is prohibited.

“In this light, the public is advised not to purchase and consume these candy products or any other food products that resembles the packaging and labeling of cigarette brands, as these might encourage smoking to the consumers, especially children,” the FDA said.

“Since unregistered food products have not gone through evaluation and testing process of the FDA, the agency cannot guarantee their quality and safety. The consumption of such violative products may pose potential health hazard to the consuming public.”

The FDA warned establishments not to distribute food products until they have already been covered by the appropriate authorization (product registration).

It also asked local government units and law enforcement agencies to ensure that the products are not sold or made available in their localities or areas of jurisdiction.

To report sale or distribution of the above unregistered food products, the public is encouraged to access eReport, at, e-mail, or call the Center for Food Regulation and Research  hotline (02) 857-1900 local 8115 and 8112.
