DIALYSIS AID -- The newly established Maximo B. Dalog Foundation has reached out to dialysis patients as led by the late Mountain Province representative’s daughter, Atty. Cyphrine Maxcel Dalog, who handed over a check worth P100,000 to Jennifer Tuzon, treasurer of the Kataguan Dialysis Patients Organization. -- Janina Mae Napadao

BONTOC, Mountain Province – In an effort to sustain the provision of social services for people of Mountain Province especially on health and education, the Maximo B. Dalog Foundation was launched on Oct. 1, coinciding with the 71st birth anniversary of the late legislator.

The Maximo B. Dalog Foundation is a non-profit foundation conceptualized by his family to primarily extend financial assistance to indigent patients suffering from chronic kidney disease. It also intends to grant scholarships to poor but deserving college students.

It also sponsors educational and manpower training programs offered for youth development.

The foundation also extends social services through outreach programs in collaboration with other registered organizations and government agencies.

Atty. Maximo Y. Dalog Jr. said the foundation aims to continue the social programs of the late congressman in their private capacity. He said together with his siblings and their mother, the foundation will reciprocate the love and respect of their kakailians to the late congressman.

Atty. Cyphrine Maxcel Dalog said the foundation shall continue the partnerships with the Kataguan Dialysis Patients Organization and the Children International that gave priority and continuously donated goods to the province. The foundation is also willing to work with other organizations and government agencies.

The incorporators of the foundation are Cecilia Dalog, Clarence, Maximo Jr., April Dalome, Leopold, Virginia Teresita, and Cyphrine Maxcel with a total contribution of the corporation amounting to P1,519,214.64.

The Kataguan Dialysis Patients Organization, a group of dialysis patients from Mountain Province who are undergoing a lifetime treatment, is the foundation’s first beneficiary, receiving P100,000.

Jennifer Tuzon, the group’s treasurer, thanked the foundation and the Dalog family for their unending support.

Hospital records in Mountain Province show that chronic kidney disease cases increased over the years. With the opening of the Bontoc General Hospital and the Luis Hora Memorial Regional Hospital (LHMRH), expenses in the treatment of their patients have somehow lessened.

Meanwhile, Provincial Administrator Amador Batay-an representing the acting  governor attended the launching of the foundation.

Extending greetings for the establishment of the foundation, Batay-an said they are mulling for the institutionalization of the Kataguan Caravan Drive for Life during the Lang-ay Festival. The caravan is an annual activity organized by the Kataguan Organization in partnership with the Office of the Congressman to generate funds for the weekly dialysis of the patients.

Dr. Eduardo Calpito, LHMRH OIC-Medical Center chief, offered support through assistance during medical missions.

He added that the dialysis center of the hospital will soon be functional upon the release of its license to operate.

Calpito said since he assumed the post at the hospital, he facilitated the processing of pertinent documents for the operation of the dialysis center, which is seen to lessen the burden of the patients and family members traveling to Baguio and other regions providing such treatment.
