Group opens study grant for deaf learners

The New Media Services (NMS)-Cares announced the opening of its scholarship program for the deaf under the Scholarship for the Education of Exceptional Deaf (SEED) Program for school year 2017-2018.

In a letter to Mayor Mauricio Domogan, NMS-Cares Charity Manager Virginia Gahid said her organization works closely with families of the deaf and partner schools to offer support to deserving deaf students.

It has also arranged for a scholarship grant to any school of preference by the applicant with permit to operate and able to provide quality education for young deaf students.

Willing students/parents can visit the NMS-Cares office at D304 3/F Lopez Building D, Corner Assumption, Session Road for application, interview, or further inquiries.

Eligibility and requirements are as follows: Must be deaf or hard of hearing; entering or continuing high school or senior high level; certificate of indigence from barangay indicating annual household income; photocopy of birth certificate and PWD ID; photocopy of private school’s government permit or recognition; and 1 piece 2x2 picture (white background).

The qualified applying deaf student will be awarded with a maximum grant of P20,000  covering only the full school tuition and other miscellaneous fees; the scholarship will be valid for one school year only and the candidate has to re-apply next year to avail of the scholarship.

Deadline for the application and submission of requirements is on July 28.
