Team formed to probe expired meds use at Bontoc hospital
by Rimaliza A. Opiña

A fact-finding team will investigate the complaint about the use of expired medicines and reagents at the Bontoc General Hospital (BoGH).

Department of Health Regional Director Lakshmi Legaspi the team would be composed of representatives from the regional offices of the DOH in regions 1, 2, and the Cordillera.

In the meantime, concerned officials of BoGH have been issued a notice of violation and were required by the DOH-Cordillera to explain the complaint sent to its central office, as well as the initial findings of an inspection team who saw that hospital personnel were using expired medicines and reagents.

Legaspi said the fact-finding team has yet to determine a timetable of when it can conclude its investigation.

Meanwhile, Legaspi said the DOH-Cordillera is preparing the map of where the proposed site of a regional drug rehabilitation center will be built.

She said the DOH has to comply with the directive of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources to conserve or minimize the number of pine trees that will be cut when the building is constructed.

The proposed site is within the Luis Hora Memorial Regional Hospital compound in Bauko, Mountain Province.

Legaspi said the DOH also has to address the concern brought about by the presence of a claimant over a portion of the six-hectare property of the hospital.

In a forum on Friday, Legaspi also called for a continuing partnership for the achievement of the government’s “All for health, towards health for all” agenda.
