Parade–for–a–cause in Bontoc benefits 17 dialysis patients
by Alpine L. Killa

BONTOC, Mountain Province – Patients undergoing dialysis at the Bontoc General Hospital (BoGH) are the beneficiaries of the parade-for-a-cause held in celebration of Women’s Month.

Gender and Development focal person Mabel C. Cariño of the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office said an initial amount of P109,042 was turned over to Provincial Health Officer Nenita D. Lizardo during the Women’s Day celebration on March 8.

The amount came from the donations of officials and employees of the provincial government, local government units, national government agencies and quasi-government units, non-government offices, and various women’s organizations.

Lizardo said the donation will be used to pay for the sessions of 17 patients dialysis sessions at the BoGH.

She said that although it is innate for the people of Mountain Province to share their blessing and extend help to those in need, the support shown by the participants gave hope and strength to the patients.

A signature campaign that calls for the government to make dialysis free was launched during the Women’s Day celebration.

A separate signature campaign was also spearheaded by the Governor’s Office and the Provincial Information Office. The campaign is a collaboration with the Philippine Information Agency and other sectors of society.

The campaign is asking Congress to pass a law that will make dialysis in government health facilities free to all patients.
