2,834 elderly receive pension from DSWD
by Larry T. Lopez / PIA

TABUK CITY, Kalinga – Some 2,834 elderly of the city  had a joyous Christmas with the timely release of their 2016 last quarter socialized pension by the Department of Social Welfare and Development last December.

Vilma Palma of the City Social Welfare and Development Office said 539 more senior citizen pensioners also received the same benefit from the Tabuk City-LGU as sponsored beneficiaries.

Under Republic Act 994, the DSWD extends P500 monthly pension, released per  quarter, to senior citizens who have no other source of financial support.

Aside from the socialized pension, the city government also provides livelihood assistance and mortuary benefits of P5,000 to qualified members of the federation and P2,000 to non-federation members.

There are 150 additional pensioners this year bringing to 689 the total number of city-sponsored beneficiaries under the program.

CSWDO records show there are 6,723 registered senior citizens in Tabuk.

CSWD Officer Susana Daluping said their office closely coordinates with the City Federation of Senior Citizens for the updated list of members.
