Voters’ list up until Sept 30
by Hanna C. Lacsamana

SPECIAL VOTERS’ REGISTRATION -- The Baguio office of the Commission on Elections has set a special voter’s registration day for persons with disability on Sept. 11 at the 3rd level of SM City Baguio, where Comelec-Baguio will hold office until the Sept. 30 registration deadline. -- Harley Palangchao

Qualified citizens have until Sept. 30 or less than two weeks to register as voters in line with the 2022 national and local elections.

The last month of registration of voters has been made more accessible in Baguio City like in other areas nationwide through the mall registration at SM City Baguio where the Commission on Elections Baguio under City Elections Officer, Atty. John Paul Martin, has been accommodating new registrants, those who wish to transfer their voting place, and other transactions conducted at the Comelec office since Sept. 1.

The mall registration, located at the SM Baguio level 3 near Cyberzone, is open from Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturdays and holidays, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

A maximum of 300 slots are processed daily on a first come, first served basis. Compliance to the minimum public health standards like physical distancing and wearing of face mask and shield is strictly observed.

Under the #MagpaRehistroKa campaign, the Comelec Baguio has been urging residents to register as voters including the youth and members of the vulnerable sector.

For more inclusive elections, Comelec Baguio conducted an exclusive registration for persons with disability last Sept. 11 and for senior citizens last Sept. 18, which aimed to highlight the equal right of suffrage of the vulnerable groups as other individuals.

The Sangguniang Kabataan in different barangays also took part in the campaign by conducting their respective pre-registration in the previous months to assist constituents 15 to 30 years old who were not yet registered voters, those who wanted to transfer, and those who did not vote for three consecutive times.

Special registration for persons deprived of liberty was also held last July 31 at the male and female dorms of the Baguio City jail.

In August, Comelec Baguio personnel also went to a vaccination site in the city and distributed voter registration forms to encourage residents to register.

As of July 19, Baguio has a total of 151,245 registered voters out of the 992,272 registered voters in the Cordillera.
