Pusher killed in anti-drug operation
by Ofelia C. Empian

A suspected drug pusher was shot and killed by anti-drug operatives after firing at one of the police officers during a buy bust operation last week in Shilan, La Trinidad, Benguet.

The Police Regional Office-Cordillera identified the suspect as Hilario Viduya Pineda, who was caught in the act of selling illegal drugs to an undercover policeman.

According to the PRO-Cor report, Pineda suddenly fired at one of the operatives after finding out that the money handed to him was fake.

In retaliation, the undercover police officer, who was wearing a bulletproof vest, shot the suspect causing his death.

Pineda is listed in the street level target by the Directorate for Intelligence of the Philippine National Police and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency.

He was also monitored to be operating in Abra, Baguio City, La Trinidad, and in Region 1.

Recovered from the crime scene were one caliber 45 pistol; four fired cartridge cases; five live ammunitions; one sling bag containing cellular phone with sim card; six sachets of suspected shabu; six pieces P1,000 bills of which three are alle-gedly fake money; motorcycle used by the suspect; and some of his belongings.

Based on PRO-Cor records, the suspect was arrested several times for engaging in illegal activities such as theft and robbery when he was a minor.

Pineda was given shelter at the police station by the Women and Children Protection Desk of Baguio City Police Office and was given education through the Alternative Learning System as to help him turn his life around.

“However, he left the midst of the police and went back to his illegal activities including illegal drugs,” said PRO-Cor Director, B/Gen. Israel Ephraim Dickson.

He said the crackdown on illegal drugs continues with another suspected drug pusher arrested in Baguio City for selling two sachets of shabu to an undercover cop.
