Public forum on e-bingo permit in LT set Sept 11
by Ofelia C. Empian

To determine whether to allow or disallow electronic-bingo La Trinidad, Benguet, a public consultation on the entry of e-bingo games is set this Sept. 11.

Councilor Henry Kipas, member of the committee on ways and means, said the consultation would be conducted to determine public  pulse over the planned operation of e-bingo in the municipality, which is being objected by civil society organizations in nearby Baguio City.

“The consultation will clarify matters on e-bingo such as how it is operated and managed and for the public to know its advantage and disadvantages,” Kipas said.

He said town officials would invite representatives from the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation and franchise holders.

The public consultation will start at 1:30 p.m. at the Municipal Hall’s Lednicky Hall.

In an earlier committee report, the committees on laws, ways and means and peace and order released their report interposing no objection to the application of Lolita Cabahug to operate e-bingo.

The resolution stated that Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office and Pagcor have demonstrated their reliability as a source of income for the government, particularly for the funding of government projects.

“The committees hereto recommend that this body will interpose no objection to the application of Lolita Cabahug to operate an e-bingo boutique in the municipality provided that a consultation shall be conducted by the applicant,” the committee report states.

The report further stated that there should be strict implementation and compliance of the rules and regulations governing the games and activities and remittances due the local government unit.

Cabahug has been applying in the past administration to operate an electronic bingo franchise in town.

Kipas said there has been two public consultations done in the past but the status of the request of Cabahug was overtaken by events such as the elections.

Kipas said they are currently studying how to regulate as well the presence of Keno and lotto outlets that cropped up in the town, which did not go through public consultations prior to their operation.

He said they are studying on passing a resolution asking PCSO to limit the giving of franchise to local lotto and Keno outlet operators.
