The resolutions endorsing the 500-megawatt pumped storage hydropower project of the Coheco Badeo Corp. in the remote village of Badeo, Kibungan, Benguet have not been withdrawn or rescinded.
Coheco underscored this last week in wake of reports of supposed oppositions relative to the ongoing activities being conducted by the company to comply with regulations in relation to its multi-billion project.
The Department of Energy has granted a hydropower service contract for the Badeo project.
Coheco Badeo Corp. Chief Executive Officer Paul Bagano said last week there are no resolutions withdrawing support to the proposed pumped storage hydro project in Badeo, a barangay that can be reached only by foot.
Bagano was referring to Barangay Resolution 6. s. 2016 containing the council’s support to the project, which the local officials claimed is unconventional, indigenous, renewable and environment-friendly.
In the resolution, Badeo officials said their support was issued only after the host community was consulted.
The resolution was addressed to the DOE, National Commission on Indigenous Peoples, National Water Resources Board, Department of Environment and Natural Resources and other concerned agencies.
Kibungan Mayor Cesar Molitas also said Thursday there were no other resolutions passed by the municipal council other than Resolution 22 s. 2016 endorsing the proposed 500-megawatt pumped storage hydro-power project.
The barangay and municipal council resolutions contain the officialdom’s support to the Coheco Badeo Corp. to carry out hydrological, topographical, geological and geotechnical field survey and investigation. The resolutions also support conduct of socio-economic survey and environmental study as well as the study on multipurpose use of water resource plus other activities crucial to the realization of the project.
The project proponent has earlier applied for a certificate of pre-condition for its project.
Bagano said Coheco Badeo Corp. has been exerting efforts to comply with regulations and other requirements and endorsements from regulatory agencies to ensure that the project is above board.
