3 multi–level parking sites w/in Burnham under review
by Rimaliza A. Opiña

Three areas, all within the Burnham Park reservation, were identified as possible sites where a multi-level/podium/stack parking building will be built.

The Ganza parking, the former site of the City Auditorium, and the former terminal of the Pantranco – the area between the Orchidarium and Children’s Playground were among the proposed sites.

Ganza and the auditorium are presently being used for parking but on a street level only.

People who attended the public consultation organized by the city council committee on public utilities, transportation, and traffic legislation last Aug. 1 agreed that the city’s problem on traffic congestion necessitates construction of parking buildings.

“Please prioritize approval of this proposal,” one lady said during the public consultation.

Some suggested that the topmost level of the proposed building may be converted into view decks where the entire Burnham can be viewed, and some spaces may be rented out to concessionaires where food and souvenir items may be sold.

Councilor Benny Bomogao, chair of the committee said the inputs during the consultation will be submitted to the city council.

But judging from the results of the consultation, he said Ganza and the former city auditorium are ideal sites for a parking building.
