Violators to help build sewage pipe system
by Gaby B. Keith / PIO

Residents of Slaughterhouse Compound at Barangay Sto. Niño who were issued notices for illegal waste disposal have agreed to help the city in the construction of a sewage pipe system.

This was the solution arrived at during a meeting between city officials and barangay officials and the 21 households and establishments found to be connected to the barangay’s drainage system that flows to the Balili River.

The residents and barangay officials met with Mayor Benjamin Magalong, City Environment Parks and Management Office (Cepmo) Acting Chief Moises Lozano, and City Veterinary Office Head Brigit Piok, who filed the complaint against the 21 households and business owners.

The residents and establishment owners agreed to shoulder equitably among themselves the materials and labor for the sewage pipe system to be constructed by Cepmo.

Lozano said that the sewage pipe system will be connected to the main Tobishima sewage line located near a creek in the barangay.

He said that if all goes as planned, the sewage pipe system will be finished in September and the residents are expected to immediately connect their drainage systems to the facility at their own expense.

Magalong warned the violators against committing the infraction again.

He also advised the barangay officials to be pro-active and be more aware of what’s going on in their jurisdiction.

Among the administration’s 15-point core agenda are the revitalization of the environment, speeding up of government action, and having an empowered and accountable barangay governance.
