Cleanest, greenest city brgys named

The city’s 20 cleanest and greenest barangays chosen by the Alay Sa Kalinisan Inc. (ASKI) were presented during the Barangay Day celebration at the PFVR gym, Oct 10.

Barangay SLU-SVP topped the search and received P100,000 and a plaque of appreciation, followed by City Camp Properwith P75,000 prize; and P50,000 to Imelda Marcos Village in third place.

Claiming P10,000 each with a certificate of appreciation as runners-up are Fort del Pilar, Hillside, Middle Quezon Hill, Scout Barrio, Greenwater, MRR Queen of Peace, and Burnham-Legarda.

Runners-up General Emilio F. Aguinaldo-Lower QM, Aurora Hill Proper, DPS Compound, Sto. Tomas Proper, Kias, West Modernsite in Aurora Hill, San Luis Village, Lower Lourdes Subdivision, Atok Trail, and Quezon Hill Proper barangays were given certificates of appreciation.

Special awards were given to Barangay Kayang Extension for over-all improvement; AZCKO for barangay hall functionality, organized records and document-keeping; Lopez Jaena for orderly barangay in the implementation of the Anti-Road Obstruction Ordinance, and San Antonio Village for initiating livelihood projects using scrap and recyclable materials.

Members of the ASKI monitoring team led by environmentalist and physician Julie Camdas-Cabato handed out the awards together with Soledad Goand Department of the Interior and Local Government City Director Evelyn Trinidad.

The awards were given after thorough inspection and monitoring by the ASKI team using the following criteria: data, information and education campaign within the area including instruments of dissemination; peace and order and anti-road obstruction; barangay documentation and operations; presence of rain water collecting equipment; sewage and drainage, infrastructure and other installations; garbage segregation and collection; presence of livelihood and environmental programs; overall cleanliness and sanitation inspection.

Greening and overall appearance including tourism appeal are also included in the criteria.

The Public Information Office, Special Services Division, Baguio City Police Office, Engineer’s Office, Health Services Office, General Services Office and City Environment and Parks Management Office rated the barangays.

The ASKI is a public-private partnership for environment programs that has branched out to include other barangay endeavors. A trust fund and allotment from the MGD golf cup proceeds enabled it to operate for the past years.

The awards were previously handed out during the Baguio Day celebration.

This year’s Barangay Day celebration theme is“Exemplary governance in the barangays towards a better Baguio.”
