Hearings on sanitation rules for food businesses in Baguio set

Interested individuals and groups or agencies are invited to attend public consultations to tackle issues on health and sanitation, ecology and environmental protection on Dec. 5 and 12 at the City Hall multipurpose hall.

The committee chaired by Councilor Joel Alangsab will hold a public hearing on the proposed ordinance 0127-19 entitled “Setting the sanitation standards for food establishments operating within the city of Baguio” on Dec. 5 from 1 to 5 p.m.

The half-day forum will tackle concerns on sanitary clearance and health certificates, sanitary practices and protection of food, structural requirements, facilities, sewage, storage, equipment design and maintenance, and food service operations.

Also to be discussed are the special provisions on space, classification of food establishments, operation of catering businesses including bulk food preparation, food booth operations, stalls, carts in carnivals and fairs, food and drink vending machines;

Prohibited acts and penalties; fund requirements, proceeds from penalties collected, orientation seminars and training, information dissemination, enforcement on employers and individuals/employees; and other pertinent matters.

Secretary to the Sanggunian Brenner Bengwayan also invites the public for a hearing on Dec. 12, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., at the City Hall multipurpose hall on the proposed ordinance 0134-19 or “Prohibiting the chewing, spitting of betel quid or moma and selling of moma products in certain places,” with penalties set for violations.

The prohibition covers public places, public conveyances and vehicles, government-owned vehicles, entertainment and accommodation establishments and public buildings, among others. Penalties for first, second, third and subsequent offenses, funding, sharing of proceeds, implementing rules and regulations, and other provisions will be discussed.

A task force for the implementation of the proposed ordinance will be created, to be chaired by Mayor Benjamin Magalong and the heads of the health and sanitation, ecology and environmental protection committees as vice chairs.

Members are representatives from the City Health and Services Office, City Buildings and Architecture Office, City Legal Offce, Public Information Office, Permits and Licensing Division, civil society organization, Philippine National Police, city treasurer, Cepmo, Department of Education, Commission on Higher Education, Federation of Parents and Teachers Association, president of the Liga ng mga Barangay, POSD, City Social Welfare and Development Office, and other concerned agencies.
