Monthly cleanup drive eyed
by PIO release

The local government is studying the conduct of a monthly citywide cleanup drive to encourage residents to participate in sustaining the clean and green campaign institutionalized through the years.

Mayor Benjamin B. Magalong said the recently conducted cleanup drive led by the private sector was successful so there is a need for a monthly citywide cleanup campaign involving the barangays to help in maintaining cleanliness all over the city.

Magalong said the cleanup campaign is needed for the activity to have an impact on the city’s overall cleanliness.

He said cleanliness inside and outside residences should be everyone’s responsibility by participating in cleanup activities in their barangays.

Residents earlier conducted a citywide cleanup campaign as part of the private sector-led initiative to sustain the gains of the local government in its clean and green campaign.

Aside from the monthly conduct of a citywide cleanup campaign, the city government institutionalized the search for cleanest and dirtiest barangays wherein the judging is done year-round to ensure the sustainable implementation of clean and green programs beneficial in helping preserve and protect the city’s environment from deterioration.

Magalong expressed his gratitude to the private sector for its initiative aimed at jumpstarting more cleanup activities and to get the barangays actively involved.

While there were only a few barangays that actively participated in the recently concluded cleanup campaign, he said all barangays should participate in forthcoming cleanup activities.
