DENR, Boliney LGU clean Ikmin River
by Maria Teresa B. Beñas / PIA

BOLINEY, Abra – In celebration of the World Water Day, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, in coordination with the local government unit, led a cleanup drive along the Ikmin River, one of the main tributaries of the Abra River.

More than 100 workers from the Community Environment and Natural Resources Office-Bangued and Lagangilang, Environmental Management Bureau, Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office, and barangays officials participated in the activity.

They were divided into four groups and given designated areas to clean.

One of the major concerns tackled during the exit conference was the waste from piggeries which are directly dumped into nearby creeks that flow to the Ikmin River.

Engr. Joyce Ann Mangsat of EMB is working with the LGU on the implementation of a memorandum with all barangays prohibiting households to directly dump their piggery’s wastes to the creeks. This is also pursuant to the Clean Water Act.

Vice Governor Ronald S. Balao-as urged Boliney people to participate in the reduction of fecal-coliform at the Ikmin River for safe water supply.

He also appealed for the continuous support and assistance of the DENR in the preservation of wildlife and protected areas of Boliney, particularly the Bani hot spring.
