NHA turns over P10M for Itogon rebuilding
by Joseph B. Zambrano / PIA

ITOGON, Benguet – The National Housing Authority (NHA) turned over P10 million to the local government of Itogon last week as assistance for construction materials and immediate needs of those affected by Typhoon Ompong.

NHA General Manager Marcelino Escalada Jr. handed the check to Mayor Victorio Palangdan and witnessed by some barangay officials.

“This is for the people of Itogon who were victims of typhoon Ompong.  Puwede itong magamit  for the purchase of construction materials, aggregates, cement, and all other materials available provided we rehabilitate housing hindi na doon sa danger zone,” Escalada said.

NHA will continue to help in the long term resettlement of affected families in a secure and safer environment, he added.

Hundreds of families were affected by the landslides in Itogon during Typhoon Ompong last Sept. 15.

As of Oct. 2, Itogon has recorded 89 dead and eight are still missing, mostly in Barangay Ucab.

The Mines and Geosciences Bureau has identified a large portion of Itogon as danger zone   with some areas considered as unlivable.

Palangdan expressed his gratitude in behalf of his town mates.

“We thank the NHA and all national government agencies for the outpouring, non-stop assistance that they are giving us,” he said.
