Village to benefit from mini hydro
by PIA

TINEG, Abra – Barangay Caganayan in this remote town has been in the dark for years, but electricity is forthcoming with the development of a mini-hydro project.

The project is a joint undertaking of the Department of Energy, the Department of Science and Technology the Provincial Government of Abra, the local government of Tineg, and the community of Caganayan.

DOST-Abra Provincial Director Menandro Buenafe said the mini-hydro project that started several years ago is proceeding with the provincial government procuring the turbine and the dynamo. The DOE provided the construction materials for the dam, conveyance canal, power house, and transmission lines from the power source to the barangay.

The DOST provided the technical job from site identification to the technical description, markings for the electrical posts, and the survey and installation of the transmission lines and the penstock.  It likewise conducted the survey and packaged the project proposal for funding.

The LGU of Tineg built the access road to the project site.

Tineg has been deprived of the basic infrastructure facilities like roads, telecommunication system and electricity. Some years ago, people in Tineg enjoyed the benefit of solar power, however it was not sustained. Their only form of communication was thru the radio.
