by PIO release

CONTINUED PARTNERSHIP -- Officials of the Fil-Am Golf led by co-chairmen Anthony De Leon and Tim Allen together with Board of Trustee Sean Bedi and San Miguel Corp. Tollways Operations President and CEO Manny Bonoan sign a contract on the continued partnership between two parties in the promotion of the sport in the locality. Part of the proceeds of the tournament is being allocated to the protection and preservation of a watershed in Baguio.

Mayor Mauricio G. Domogan expressed his gratitude to the officers and members of the Fil-Am Golf Foundation for granting the local government’s request to realign the P5 million earlier allocated for the fencing of the Busol Watershed to the fencing of the Camp 8 forest reservation.

Domogan said the corporate social responsibility project of the Fil-Am Golf Foundation for the preservation and protection of the environment will definitely be a big boost to the efforts of concerned government agencies and the local government to ward off informal settlers from intruding into forest reservations in the city.

“We will continue to work with the Fil-Am Golf Foundation on the implementation of the Camp 8 watershed fencing project to prevent encroachment of our remaining forest reservations. We want the present and future generations to enjoy a decent state of the city’s environment for them to value its preservation and protection,” Domogan said.

He said the local government continues to closely work with other government agencies and interested partners in the implementation of short, medium and long-term programs for the sustainable protection of the city’s environment because it is still important to strike a balance between development and preserving the remaining forested areas in the city.

Fil-Am Golf Foundation embraced environmental preservation and protection as one of its corporate social responsibility projects and allotted some P5M to augment the funds earmarked by concerned government agencies, the local government and private individuals and groups for the fencing of the Busol Watershed.

However, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources was able to source out sufficient funds for the implementation of the fencing project that was augmented by funds from the local government, the Baguio Water District, the Baguio Regreening Movement among others, which resulted in the completion of the budget needed for the project.

The Camp 8 forest reservation is one of the major watersheds in the city.
