Fallen trees to be given to Apayao

SANTA MARCELA, Apayao – This province may now benefit from the trees felled by Super Typhoon Lawin that hit northern parts of Luzon last year.

Department of Environment and Natural Resources-Cordillera Regional Director Ralph Pablo presented the memorandum of agreement for the donation of the toppled trees to the local government unit last week.

Pablo said that the DENR through the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office will donate at least  492 uprooted or fallen trees of various species with an aggregate estimate of 717.32 cubic meters to the provincial government to be used for infrastructure projects, repair of public buildings and schools, and furniture and fixtures of government entities.

Penro Candido Tuscano said the LGU will gather and haul the inventoried typhoon-damaged trees and stockpile logs or lumber to be derived from them in a designated log pond that is safe and convenient for transport.

The DENR is in charge of the progressive post donation report of the use of lumber derived from  donated logs in coordination with the provincial government.

Gov. Elias Bulut, Jr. said he is glad that the DENR has granted their request to use the fallen trees for better purposes.

Aside from felled trees, the DENR man also dispose of confiscated logs that are no longer subject of a pending case, through donation following a  priority list of recipients.
