63 CPLA members now forest guards

BONTOC, Mountain Province – Sixty-three members of the Cordillera Forum for Peace and Development, formerly Cordillera Peoples Liberation Army, have been hired as forest guards by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources to help in the government’s greening program and other forest-related protection activities.

The hiring of former CPLA members is part of the economic and livelihood reintegration program for former rebels.

Of the approved 63 who applied, the appointment of nine others were put on hold pending the completion of other needed documents, DENR Provincial Office Program Officer Samson Toyoken said.

Director Alexander Umpar of the Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process (Opapp) last week said 70 CPFD members will be hired as forest guards.

Based on the contract of service, the forest guards will work from Aug. 16 to  Dec, 31. They will receive  a monthly remuneration of P8,000.

Their contracts could be renewed subject to the availability of funds, satisfactory performance, and non-violation of the service contract and other existing rules and regulation.
