TABUK CITY, Kalinga – Government employees will plant 3,000 assorted seedlings at the vicinity of the athletic bowl here on Sept. 21 as part of the Civil Service Month celebration.
Gov. Jocel Baac issued a memorandum mandating the employees to participate, bring their working tools, and provide fences to protect the seedlings.
Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Officer Severino Dalutag assured the availability of seedlings at their nursery, which is composed of narra, mahogany, and ipil-ipil.
Dominador Tumbali, environment and natural resources officer of the provincial government, committed another 1,000 seedlings as reinforcement.
Baac also directed the Provincial Engineering Office to provide maintenance crews to take care of the trees. Provincial Engineer Edwin Tubban said they will hire contractual workers to do the maintenance.
During the recent Provincial Development Council meeting, District Engineer Alexander Castañeda said future planting along highways should be planned to avoid uprooting when the roads have to be widened. He also reminded trees should not be planted along the route of electric power lines.
