Upgrade in city’s ICT infra bared
by Gaby B. Keith / PIO

The city government’s present information and communications technology (ICT) infrastructure features the installation and commissioning of a new network firewall that secures its network from malicious cyber attacks as part of its ongoing ICT modernization program.

Secretary to the Mayor Philip Puzon said during the management committee meeting of city officials Jan. 6 that the firewall ensures fast, reliable and secure Internet connectivity for City Hall network users and protects them against computer viruses.

Puzon supervises the Management Information and Technology Division (MITD).

Future ICT infrastructure improvements include the installation of Hyper Converged Infrastructure servers, upgrading of structured cabling system, increase in network bandwidth to 10 gigabit, and fiber optic interconnection for all city government remote offices.

“The remote office connectivity will connect local health centers and remote offices to the city government network,” Puzon said.

The impact of proposed MITD projects for 2021-2023 will see the digitalization of all government processes; improved telephone service via voiceover Internet protocol, improved biometrics system; replacement of legacy ICT infrastructure and end-of-life desktop computers.

Puzon said substantial savings on costs in ICT operational expenses and Internet subscriptions is expected as a result of the upgrade.
