Filipinos urged to be loyal in upholding country’s freedom
by PIO release

Philippine Military Academy Vice Admiral Allan Ferdinand Cusi urged Filipinos to have the integrity and loyalty in upholding the country’s freedom earned through the sacrifices of fallen heroes like Dr. Jose P. Rizal.

Cusi said Filipinos must sustain their burning desire for freedom and lasting peace to show that they value the sacrifices of heroes that freed the Philippines from colonizers.

Cusi served as the guest of honor and speaker during the city’s commemoration of the 123rd martyrdom of Dr. Jose P. Rizal at the Rizal Park last Dec. 30, 2019.

He said Filipinos must pass on to the future generations the peace and freedom that the country is currently enjoying.

As an officer of the country’s armed forces, the PMA official said the country can sustain the gains of peace and freedom achieved through hard fought wars that served as the turning point in the country’s rich history.

Cusi said Rizal proved that the pen is mightier than the sword  because with his writings, he created the burning desire among Filipinos to revolt against their abusive colonizers, and it was already too late when the Spaniards realized the Filipinos were revolting against their over four centuries of colonizing the Philippines.

He said Rizal also proved that conflicts can be won through peaceful means through his writings.

Cusi said Rizal’s death via firing squad on Dec. 30, 1896 in Bagumbayan paved the way for other heroes to continue the revolution against the Spanish colonizers until the declaration of the country’s independence on June 12, 1898.

Police and military officials, city officials, and groups aligned with organizations linked to Rizal joined the wreath laying ceremony during the occasion.
