by Maria Aprila Cruz

The ConsumerNet Cordillera is set to launch this year’s Consumer Welfare Month (CWM) celebration with a regional consumer congress and a press conference, Oct. 2 at the Paragon Hotel.

This year’s CWM celebration banners the theme, “Sustainable consumption: Understanding the impact of consumer’s choices in shared environment.”

Department of Trade and Industry-Cordillera Director Myrna Pablo, chair of ConsumerNet, said the congress shall enhance stakeholders’ consciousness on sustainable consumption and production as well as advance the understanding of this significant issue to translate it into concrete actionable plans and advocacies in society.

The activity also aims to draw more concerted and coordinated cooperation among the stakeholders to ensure sustainable consumption/production policies and practices are established and maintained, Pablo said.

DTI Usec. Ruth B. Castelo of the Consumer Protection Group together with Director Domingo R. Tolentino of the Consumer Protection and Advocacy Bureau are expected to grace the activity.

Sheila Fuentes, chief executive officer and co-founder of the Forth Co., a pioneer online marketplace mainly for sustainable fashion selections has been invited to talk on learning about the sustainable development initiatives of the retail sector and how to effectively promote sustainable goods and services to the consumers.

Pursuant to Presidential Proclamation 1098 s. 1997, CWM is celebrated every October to campaign the protection of consumers and to promote public welfare.
