Comelec sets Sept 30 deadline
by Redjie Melvic Cawis / PIA

The Commission on Elections is calling on the individuals to register before the deadline.

Comelec-Baguio Election Officer John Paul Martin said the last day of the voter registration for the 2020 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections that started on Aug.  1 is on Monday, Sept. 30.

Martin said they are prepared for the influx of the registrants who would avail of all types of applications for voter-related registration from new registration of both regular and SK, change or correction of entries (for misspelled names, wrong birthdates, wrong gender), transfer of registration record, reactivation of registration record, inclusion of registration record, and reinstatement of name in the list of voters.

In the past two months, Comelec-Baguio has registered more than 9,000 in their regular registration at the office and through the various satellite registration activities in the city.

Martin said they are expecting more than 10,000 registrants at the end of the voter registration period.

Meanwhile, the Comelec issued guidelines to be observed for the last day of voter registration.

Pursuant to Section 6 of Comelec Resolution 10549, if there are still applicants lined up to register within 30 meter radius from the Office of the Election Officer (OEO) by 3 p.m of Sept. 30, their names will be promptly and consecutively listed down.

Each name will be announced repeatedly three times in the order in which the applicants’ names were listed. Applicants who are not present when their names are called shall no longer be allowed to file their application.

When an applicant’s name is called and he/she is present, his/her application will be processed and his/her biometrics data will be recorded.

The process continues until all those listed shall have been processed.

An express lane is provided for persons with disability, senior citizens, and heavily pregnant applicants.

Applicants are advised to proceed to the OEO in their city or municipality or any satellite registration center in the locality where they intend to vote and present at least one valid ID.
