Public assured longanisa in upcoming event, safe to eat
by Hanna C. Lacsamana

Organizers of the 15th Hotel and Restaurant Tourism Weekend this year, which will feature for the third year the Longest Longanisa Festival are confident of the event’s success in spite of the scare created by recent the African swine fever outbreak.

“We are very confident that people will continue to patronize the Baguio longanisa, which we are featuring for the third time. We assure the public that the pork that will be used to create the longanisa is free from African swine fever as certified by the National Meat Inspection Service,” said Hotel and Restaurant Association of Baguio spokesperson Andrew Pinero.

He said the Baguio longanisa produced by Alabanza has been a staple among residents and gained popularity among tourists who buy them as a pasalubong item.

It is a brand that has become competitive and synonymous to the products of other longanisa-producing provinces like Nueva Ecija.

He said the MV Alabanza has a well-sanitized storage for its longanisa for longer shelf life.

City Supervising Tourism Officer Alec Mapalo said there is nothing to fear although he said caution among the people is expected.

He said the city is confident that the longest longanisa festival will be a success as many in fact are looking forward to the event, which plans to display seven kilometers of longanisa along Session Road, Oct. 6 and will be available to the public at a discounted price.
