BCPO nabs 94 drug suspects in six months in intensified ops
by Harley F. Palangchao

Around 94 suspects were arrested in 73 anti-illegal drugs operations conducted by the Baguio City Police Office from January to July this year, the city’s top cop reported
BCPO Director, Col. Allen Rae Co, reported the number of arrested persons almost doubled the number of drugs suspects arrested during anti-illegal drugs operations during the same period last year.

Co reported that bulk of those arrested this year was during the series of operations conducted the later part of July where 24 individuals were arrested.

“Working closely with Mayor Benjamin Magalong, our local police conducted series of anti-illegal drugs operations and our police personnel were successful. There will be more anti-illegal drug operations anytime,” Co said.

The BCPO director reported that close to 110 grams of shabu worth P650, 000 and more than 41 kilos of marijuana worth P4.9 million for a total of P5.9 million worth of drugs were seized during those operations.

During the same period last year, only close to P200,000 worth of drugs were seized.

“To also ensure that those involved in illegal drugs will be put behind bars, BCPO personnel strictly follow procedures in anti-illegal drugs operation and that pieces of evidence are well recorded,” Co said.

No other than the city mayor admitted that illegal drug is one of the major peace and order concerns in Baguio reason why he asked the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency during the recent Regional Peace and Order Council meeting at The Mansion to report the true state of illegal drugs in Baguio and the rest of the Cordillera.

Magalong wants that concerned law enforcement and the anti-illegal drug agency to report factual data on illegal drugs situation so that appropriate solutions will be carried out.

Co, meanwhile, reported that the crime statistics in Baguio also decreased from January to July this year with 210 crimes recorded compared to 234 cases recorded during the same period last year.

Theft topped petty crimes with 103 cases followed by physical injury with 75 then robbery with 24. The other crimes recorded were murder – two and homicide – six.

Co said the local police force is also focusing on traffic concerns and other environmental concerns in support of the 15-point agenda of the city government.
