City senior citizen councilors-for-a-day pass 22 resolutions

Senior citizen councilors-for-a-day approved 22 resolutions during their session last Oct. 7.

Vice mayor-for-a-day Felizardo Garcia is the proponent of a database registry of all persons with disability and elderly; and a mandatory representative for said groups in policy-making bodies and local legislative councils.

Councilor-for-a-day Luz Abella requested Rep. Mark Go to introduce amendments to Republic Act 9994, to maximize the contribution of senior citizens to nation building, additional benefits and privileges and other purposes.

Councilor-for-day Manuel Martin Palor, Jr. requests the Benguet Electric Cooperative to look into member’s reward points as to prompt payment of bills which may be converted into deductions or basic necessities. He also proposed a resolution stating that businesses must be issued permits first before operation, and barangay halls have to be allocated funds for a uniform color of paint and repair.

The proposal of councilor-for-a- day Laurito Alinao focused on the stringent implementation of the standard height of stepboards for public utility jeepneys.

Councilorfor-a-day Delia Nicolas proposed a cash incentive of P500 for senior citizens this Christmas.

Councilor for-a-day June Prill-Brett proposed for police service during tourism peak seasons and special holidays.

Councilor for-a-day Verena Viernes’ proposed the strict implementation of the Smoke-Free ordinance and the creation of a barangay smoke-free task force.

Also approved was her proposal for real estate lessors to register their boarders, for census and security reasons.

Councilor for-a-day Jane Tayab urged concerned agencies to ensure that barangay halls are persons with disability and senior citizen-friendly.

Councilor for-a-day Guillerma Francisco proposed for market stall owners to join in all clean-up drives in the market.Her proposal asking Rep. Mark Go to help allot funds for the development of Bayan Park has likewise been approved.

Councilor for-a-day Caroline Santiago requested the City Veterinary Office to strictly implement the Anti-Stray Dog Ordinance and to deputize barangay officials, tanods, the police and garbage collectors to impound stray animals encountered within their areas of jurisdiction. Her proposal requesting the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board, concerned punong barangay and the police to inspect the garage of vehicle registrants was also approved.

The council also unanimously approved the proposal of councilor-for-a-day Estela Mangioet for the strengthening of guidance and counseling programs in public and private elementary schools.

Brett stirred the council’s interest with a proposed resolution requesting Go for the disestablishment of two proclamations declared as mineral reservations in 1957 and 1959 and awards to qualified home lot applicants.
