Fines for cars w/o license pushed
by Jordan G. Habbiling / PIO

The committee on public utilities, transport, and traffic legislation of the Sangguniang Panlungsod ng Baguio is pushing for a policy that prohibits un-registered vehicles from traversing city roads.

“Many motor vehicles ply the roads of the city without attaching their motor vehicle registration plates to avoid being flagged down by traffic enforcers,” the committee members said.

The committee reiterated that the license plate is for the identification of vehicles for safety and security reasons, especially during an accident.

Under the ordinance, motor vehicles without license plates will be prohibited from city roads. Motorists with confiscated license plates due to a traffic violation must show their temporary operator’s permit or traffic citation ticket to the apprehending officers.

Motorists with vehicles without license plates issued by the Land Transportation Office must show their conduction stickers or temporary plate number and with the corresponding travel authority issued by the LTO.

Violators will be fined P500. The ordinance will take effect in accordance with the provisions of the Local Government Code of 1991.

The proposal was approved on first reading during the council’s session on Oct. 21.
