SK: The youths are city’s future leaders
by Gaby B. Keith / PIO

The Sangguniang Kabataan Federation of Baguio City has emphasized the role of the youth in nation-building and the need to acknowledge them as the country’s reserved leaders.

“The youth has a significant role in nation building. We are part of the development and not apart from it. We are integral in the huge and complex system on our endeavor for progress,” SK federation president and Councilor Levy Lloyd Orcales said in Monday’s flag-raising rites at City Hall attended by government officials and employees led by Vice Mayor Faustino Olowan.

He said the reconstitution of the SK is not a mere revival of a youth organization or an acknowledgement and affirmation of a calling for the active participation of the youth, but ultimately to make these young individuals “realize and nurture the innate leader breeding within them.”

“These youth may sometimes be driven with youthful spirit, curiosity and commit mistakes, but they should not be considered as liabilities but assets. We should acknowledge and consider them as the reserved leaders for the future of our city and country,” Orcales stressed.

The councilor thanked city government offices for their unfailing support, accommodation, and cooperation that made it possible for the SK federation and the youth which he represents in the city council to implement their programs this past one year and three months.

“I humbly appeal to our proud city council, department heads, the diligent officers and employees, staff, and our city mayor not to get tired of us and may they always be willing to work hand in hand with our office for the benefit of the youth and others,” Orcales said.
