Brigida Eskwela in city, May 20-25
by PIO release

The Department of Education said that the annual Brigada Eskwela in the public schools in Baguio will be from May 20 to 25.

DepEd-Baguio Division officials called on parents, teachers, residents, barangay officials, and volunteers to participate in the Brigada Eskwela by rendering their services to prepare for the smooth opening of classes on June 3.

Bridaga Eskwela has been institutionalized to ensure that public schools are ready for the opening of classes so that learners will not spend much of their time in preparing their classrooms and facilities when classes open.

The city council has approved an ordinance that earmarked P1.5 million from available local funds, particularly the city’s Special Education Fund (SEF), to be equally distributed to the different schools through various materials needed in accomplishing the programmed works in the schools for the duration of the week-long activity.

There are 47 public elementary and 21 public secondary institutions in the city.

The city government allots a portion of its annual budget for the Division of City Schools’ maintenance and other operating expenses, aside from the funds set aside by the Local School Board (LSB) through the SEF used to compensate city-paid teachers and personnel among the other needs of the division.

The Local Government Code mandates local government units to set aside a portion of their collection from real property taxes for education-related programs, projects, and activities under the care of the LSB.
