Night earthquake drill to be done in Baguio as safety plan
by PIO release

The City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) will be conducting a night earthquake drill in the city to ensure the preparedness of residents when a strong temblor occurs.

Local Disaster Risk Reduction Management Officer (LDRRMO) II Louie Glenn Lardizabal said that the conduct of the night earthquake drill is part of the LDRRM plan to inform and educate the residents on the things to do during an emergency situation.

The LDRRMO is a newly created office of the local government under the City Administrator’s Office to oversee the implementation of DRRM initiatives and the preparedness of people in confronting natural and man-made hazards that could strike anytime.

Lardizabal said that the LDRRMO is now preparing the mechanics of the night earthquake drill, which will be cascaded to the residents for their information prior to the conduct of the drill.

“We hope that we can achieve our objectives in the conduct of the first night earthquake drill so that we can assess how our residents react when an earthquake happens,” Ladizabal said.

He said that no one can predict an earthquake that is why the only way to combat its negative effects to life and limb is to make sure that people are aware of the duck, cover, and hold technique and to wait for the situation to stabilize before looking for an open space to evacuate.

He said the ability of the residents to effectively and efficiently react to emergency situations when there are no sufficient lightings will be assessed and evaluated to help the LDRRMO formulate information and education campaign materials to help residents be aware of the things to do when an emergency situation strikes.

The LDRRMO is currently providing appropriate trainings to ensure that emergency responders in the barangays are equipped in responding to emergency situations.

The local government constructed a multi-story LDRRMO building at the City Engineering Office that will serve as the city’s disaster operations center aside from serving as an evacuation center.

Lardizabal appealed to residents to cooperate in the conduct of the proposed night earthquake drill.
