Engineers asked to be transparent in dealings
by Rimaliza A. Opiña

The head of the City Buildings and Architecture Office appealed to engineers to be transparent to their clients by disclosing to their clients how the fees they are collecting will be used.

In a press conference on Tuesday, CBAO Head Nazita Bañez said they received complaints about some engineers collecting P100,000 to P300,000 from their clients supposedly for the processing of building permits and other documents.

Bañez clarified the CBAO only collects P6,000 per 100 square meters floor area. “The role of professional engineers is only to prepare the requirements. The CBAO has nothing to do with whatever fees they are collecting.”

Bañez said the CBAO is being put in a bad light because of the usurious fees being collected from clients.

She said the public might transact directly at the CBAO and need not hire professionals to process permits.

The CBAO is campaigning for all building owners to secure building permits not only for purposes of securing business permits and clearances for water and electrical connection but also to be assured that their buildings are structurally sound.

For questions on transactions at the CBAO visit their office at the DPS Compound or log on to http://www.baguio.gov.ph/buildings-and-architecture.
