NYC assures wise mgmt of SK funds
by Julie G. Fianza

Youth leaders assured that funds allotted for Sangguniang Kabataan will be put to good use.

National Youth Commission (NYC) chair on governance and commissioner Victor del Rosario assured the youth leaders who attended the national convention in Baguio recently that joint memoranda and circulars were earlier issued to budget officials to harness funds for SK reforms.

This is to ensure that the P11 billion fund will be used based on priorities and for the good of the majority including education, health, sports and environment, and the anti-drug campaign.

It was also reported that amendments of some lawswill be sought for the benefit of SK leaders.

Del Rosario vowed that through coordination between the youth and the Department of Budget Management, Commission on Audit, and Department of the Interior and Local Government, correct use of funds will be assured.

Paul Pangilinan, NYC chair on global mobility, encouraged the youth to be exposed to different cultures, be competitive, enhance their skills in the global context and partner or participate with other countries’ youth group programs through culture or education and training exchange.

He urged the youth to be passionate about environmental programs as small efforts would result in a bigger impact on the country’s future.

NYC chair for day-to-day operations Julius Gutierrez and NYC Chairperson Ronald Gian Carlo Cardema said they support all policies for full financial support, including mandatory and continuing training to youth workers.

Cardema also challenged the youth who make up one-third of the nation’s voting population to arm themselves with proper voter’s education and not to sell their votes.

He said the youth should choose the candidates based on their qualification, competence, those with a clean track record, and those without pending corruption cases.

In the Senate, those with good agenda and with good plans for the majority should be chosen, Cardemasaid, adding vigilance even after the elections should be exercised.
