Youth groups urged to conduct volunteer works in rehab ctrs
by Gaby B. Keith / PIO

Local youth organizations are encouraged to conduct volunteer programs in selected drug rehabilitation centers   in coordination with the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) under Betty Fangasan.

The call, made through city council Resolution 394, s. 2018, has been approved by Mayor Mauricio Domogan. It is based on a similar measure introduced by Scout Official for-a-Day councilor Ma. Cassandra Espiritu during a session on Oct. 8, 2018.

The resolution stated that the Sangguniang Kabataan, as a government institution with active participation, has a vast operation nationwide in spearheading activities and endeavors that promote genuine comprehensive youth development and empowerment.

The 1987 Constitution provides that “The State recognizes the vital role of the youth in nation-building and shall promote and protect their physical, moral, spiritual, intellectual, and social well-being.  It shall inculcate in the youth patriotism and nationalism, and encourage their involvement in public and civic affairs.”

The measure stated that it is a declared policy of the local government of Baguio to increase the youth’s awareness on the ill-effects of illegal drug use and substance abuse and ensure that they will no longer be involved in any drug-related incidents.

“In coordination with the CSWDO, any youth organization or youth-serving organization in the city can conduct volunteer programs in selected drug rehabilitation centers in the locality,” it added.
