Human rights seminar held in city barangays
by Gaby B. Keith / PIO

Mayor Mauricio Domogan said that if people will all put to heart what the Bible teaches, there would be no need for human rights since none will be violated and everyone will leave in peace and harmony.

He made the exhortation during the “Mainstreaming of Human Rights in Local Governance” seminar last week at the Baguio City Hall multipurpose hall conducted by City Human Rights Action Team, Commission on Human Rights, and Department of the Interior and Local Government.

Around 50 participants composed of barangay officials, government employees, civil society representatives, and other stakeholders joined the seminar aimed at strengthening and capacitating the human rights action officers in the city.

City officials said the city government cannot adequately fulfill its role as protector of human rights without the input of local barangays.

The two-day seminar included topics on the basic concepts and principles of human rights; economic, social and cultural rights; human rights in good local governance; strengthening of human rights at the local government units; and how to receive complaints of human rights violations through the human rights action team.
