Public utility firms compliant
by Julie G. Fianza / PIO

Public utility companies have been compliant with Ordinance 54, s. 2008, which mandates installation of concrete covering or steel grills to cover open canals, manholes, and other pits that pose danger to vehicles and pedestrians.

This was known through a legislative monitoring and evaluation, done by the sangguniang panlungsod.

Personnel of said utilities are vigilant and report open manholes and crevices for proper action, repair, and replacement, and in the meantime, warning systems around ongoing or completed projects are installed.

Barricades or signs, tapes, and precautionary reflectorized signs and flashing lights at night time are likewise installed for pedestrian and vehicle safety.

Temporary backfilling or resurfacing, where applicable, is done for uncompleted works and securing of the site is done if the restoration is not completed within the day.

For newly restored concrete pavements along busy roads, steel plates are used as covers for safe passage of motorists and pedestrians to prevent damage on the curing concrete.

Appropriate and sufficient warning signs and billboards are also installed for information by the implementing office, for accountability in case of any untoward incidents.
