Mayor suspends classes Sept 17-21
by PIO release

Classes from pre-school to senior high school have been suspended on Sept. 17-21 to pave way for the city’s hosting of the Batang Pinoy national finals.

“We deemed it necessary to suspend the classes in the pre-school to senior high school levels to allow our youth to witness the week-long sports competition that will be hosted by our city for the first time. We also want our youth to cheer for our participating athletes considering that Baguio City is the defending champion of the Batang Pinoy games,” Mayor Mauricio Domogan said in Administrative Order 128 s. 2018.

The suspension of classes was done in consultation with officials of the Department of Education-City Schools Division. Several public schools will be used as billeting areas for delegations from Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.

Domogan said DepEd will adjust the school calendar accordingly. He said makeup classes will be spread out through the course of school year 2018-2019.

Opening ceremonies of the Batang Pinoy will be held on Saturday, Sept. 15, 2018, 3 p.m., at the Baguio Athletic Bowl. It will be preceded by the traditional parade of athletes and sports officials starting from Upper Session Road to Athletic Bowl.

The 7,000 athletes and sports officials will be participating in 28 events that will be played in different venues across the city and La Trinidad, Benguet.
