Public hearing on for solo parent measure
by Aileen P. Refuerzo / PIO

The city council will hold a public hearing on the proposed ordinances giving more benefits to solo parents and setting up livelihood fund for the Kalipinan ng Liping Pilipina (Kalipi)-Women’s Federation in the 128 barangays in the city on March 16, 2 p.m. at the Baguio City Host Lions Clubhouse.

Proposed by Vice Mayor Edison Bilog and councilors Faustino Olowan, Joel Alangsab and Lilia Fariñas, the consolidated solo parents ordinance seeks to give solo parents and their children additional benefits apart from those given under Republic Act 8972 or the Solo Parents’ Welfare Act of 2000.

The other two proposals deal on Kalipi concerns, the first one proposes the appropriation of P5,000 for every organized association as seed fund for start-up livelihood projects and the second convening the Kalipi Women’s Federation to promote its establishment in the barangays still without such organization and to empower those with existing Kalipis.

It is important to subject these measures to the scrutiny of the public to gather their insights for consideration in improving or refining the proposals.
