Mortuary aid proposed for deceased barangay officials
by PIO release

A councilor proposed the granting of mortuary assistance to the bereaved family of deceased incumbent elected or appointed barangay officials.

Councilor Joel Alangsab proposed P5,000 financial assistance to families of deceased barangay officials whether or not the cause of death is work-related.

The proposed ordinance provides that families shall immediately notify the Office of the City Mayor through its Special Services Division if a barangay official dies so that the official will assist them in processing the claim.

To facilitate processing, families are required to submit once copy each of death certificate issued by the Local Civil Registrar or Philippine Statistics Authority, certificate of incumbency by the City Local Government Operations Officer, identification and proof of relationship of the claimant to the deceased barangay official, and other documents that may be deemed needed.

The ordinance added that the sustainability of the program shall be subjected to the availability of funds appropriated by the local government.

Deaths caused by self-inflicted injuries, accident while under the influence of prohibited drugs or under the influence of liquor, and death caused by attempts, commission of, or willful participation in any crime is not covered under the proposed mortuary aid.
