City sets registration for SPES applicants

The city government of Baguio, through the Public Employment Service Office (PESO) will start accepting applicants to the Special Program for the Employment of Students (SPES) for the summer and end of term vacation this year.

In an advisory, the PESO said the registration for SPES babies, or those who previously benefited and wish to avail of the program again, is on Jan. 16, 17, and 23 from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and on Jan. 18 and 19 from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m.

Registration for new SPES applicants is on Jan. 24, 27, and 30 from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and on Jan. 25 and 26 from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m.

Interested applicants are required to apply in person at the City Hall multipurpose hall.

Applicants must be bonafide residents of Baguio; must be physically fit; and must be 15 to 30 years old at the time of registration.

They must be enrolled or must be a student who has not been able to enroll for the past semester or academic year but are planning to enroll in the coming semester or school year. They must have garnered a passing grade.

The applicants must also belong to families whose parents or guardians’ combined annual income do not exceed P130,620 after tax deductions.

Applicants must bring original birth certificate issued by the Philippine Statistics Authority or the Local Civil Registrar if born in Baguio.

High school students must submit copies of their school year 2016-2017 grades while college and students enrolled in vocation courses must submit copies of their grades from the last semester of the academic year they attended.

Applicants must also submit the original or certified true copy of their parents’ or guardians’ 2017 Income Tax Return or Certificate of Tax Exemption issued by the Bureau of Internal Revenue, including the sworn statement of affidavit if the latter is exempt from paying taxes.

Applicants are encouraged to submit three sets of photocopies of the requirements.

The SPES will be implemented from April 23 to June 4 and from June 11 to July 23.

The SPES aims to help poor but deserving students to finish their studies by providing them employment opportunities during their school breaks.
