DPWH told to fast–track tasks along national roads in Baguio
by PIO release

Mayor Mauricio Domogan urged the Department of Public works and Highways-Baguio City District Engineering Office (DPWH-BCDEO) to fast-track the completion of the infrastructure projects along national roads in the city to lessen public inconvenience during the Panagbenga.

Domogan met with DPWH-BCDEO officials and reminded them to ensure that the diggings along national roads will be completed prior to the conduct of the grand street dancing parade on Feb. 24 and grand float parade on Feb. 25 to allow residents and visitors unobstructed passage during the festival.

If the contractors fail to complete their diggings, he requested that the areas should be cleared of debris.

“We need to make sure that diggings along our national roads will be minimized so that the public will have the chance to enjoy the festive mood,” Domogan said.

He added that while the city understands the need for the agency and the concerned contractors to implement their programmed projects during the dry months to lessen untoward delays in the completion of the infrastructure projects, it is important for project implementers to be mindful of the convenience of the public.

He said the DPWH-BCDEO technical personnel must ensure that the implementation of projects will be monitored so that contractors will adhere to the standards.

He also expressed his gratitude to DPWH-BCDEO officials and contractors for their cooperation in the implementation of projects along major roads.

Domogan also requested the DPWH-BCDEO officials and contractors to ensure that signages are installed within their project sites to guide the public and to serve as information to motorists on the things to be done upon reaching the areas where projects are being implemented.

Earlier, the DPWH adopted a policy to bid out projects in the last quarter of the year and award the same to the winning bidder once the budget is passed to guarantee their implementation on the early part of the year to take advantage of rainless days.

In previous years, Domogan several times appealed to the agency to coordinate planned projects that involved road diggings with concerned   agencies to avoid inconvenience and waste of funds.
