TRULY LUCKY -- First-time visitors of Baguio City experienced a red carpet treatment from the Baguio Correspondents and Broadcasters Club, City Government of Baguio,  and its partners, as they were toured to various tourist sites in the city and nearby Benguet. Four individuals selected as lucky summer visitors this year were given red carpet treatment for four days.

Chosen by the Baguio Correspondents and Broadcasters Club were Elvien Coning, 30, a factory worker and her boyfriend Jayson Caseres, 23, a welder, both residents of Taguig City; Ira Jane Miclang of Caloocan City, 21, an audit staff at Upson International Inc.; and Alvin Francisco, 26, from Valenzuela City, and works as IT HelpDesk staff of Splash Corporation.

They were aboard a Victory Liner bus that stopped over in Sison, Pangasinan when chosen by a team headed by Migz Velarde of Sky Cable, Alah Sungduan of PTV-CAR, and BCBC president Jonathan Munar of Radyo Pilipinas.

The four visitors later rode on a motorcade up to Baguio City with a stopover at Barangay Twin Peaks  in Tuba, the first Benguet community along Kennon Road, where they were met by barangay and municipal officials headed by Mayor Ignacio Rivera.

They had their first photo op at the Lion’s Head and the tourist view deck.

In Baguio, they were presented and joined for lunch by the other BCBC officials and members at the media camp at Burnham Park before they were escorted for a courtesy call with Mayor Mauricio Domogan at the Baguio City Hall.

They were billeted at Hotel Supreme where they stayed until morning of Easter Sunday.

The visitors were toured to key tourists destinations in Baguio such as the Botanical-Centennial Park, Wright Park, The Mansion, Philippine Military Academy and Tam-Awan Village; and in nearby Benguet municipalities that include the  Strawberry Fields in La Trinidad, Winaca eco park in Tublay, and BenCab Museum in Tuba.

The visitors also paid courtesy calls to Benguet Gov. Crescencio Pacalso, La Trinidad Mayor Romeo Salda, and Tublay Mayor Armando Lauro.

During the send-off, the visitors expressed their gratitude to the BCBC officials and members. They said they were surprised and amazed to be selected as the 2018 Lucky Summer Visitors and enjoyed all the attention, privileges, and perks given to them.

“I am thankful to be selected as one of the Lucky Summer Visitors. I have learned so much about the culture of Baguio and other provinces and municipalities of Cordillera. It is also my first time to see where the strawberries are coming from. I have many unforgettable memories to bring home,” Caseres said.

“I am very happy. I only work at a warehouse and it is my first time to meet and talk with mayors and media practitioners like you. Thank you very much,” Coning said.

BCBC also rented a van that brought them home along with all their souvenirs including a flash drive that contains their souvenir photos collected and compiled from all the photojournalists who accompanied them in their daily tours.

An annual project of the BCBC since 1958, individuals, couples, families or group of friends, as long as it is their first time to visit Baguio during the Holy Week have the chance to be selected as Lucky Summer Visitors.
