Tinatik designer seeks payment
by Rimaliza A. Opiña

The designer of the “tinatik” tree, which was used as one of the Christmas decors at the Session Road rotunda in December last year, is demanding payment from the city government.

In her April 2 letter addressed to Mayor Mauricio Domogan, tinatik designer Milagros Jose said that up to now, the city government has not paid her P374,401.92 representing labor and materials for the installation.

She said all documents needed for the City Accounting Office to allow release of her payment has been submitted but the same remain pending until now.

Jose is also seeking an audience with the city council saying she wants to be clarified about the still unsolved incident where the tinatik tree got burned and later was taken down by the city government and replaced with a traditional Christmas tree design.

Jose’s tinatik tree has been criticized with many claiming her creation did not look like a tree. She and other city officials came to her defense saying art is subjective.

Jose also retaliated saying the flak she has been receiving does not speak well of a city that was recently included in the list of creative cities by Unesco.
