Jail officer jailed for illegal drug trade
by Ofelia C. Empian

A jail officer could face a jail term in the future after he was recently arrested by joint operatives of the Philippine National Police and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency for allegedly selling illegal drugs to an undercover agent.

The suspect identified as Jail Officer 3 Donald Tauli Kelly, Jr., 49 years old, and a resident of Ucab, Itogon, Benguet is currently detained.

A report from the Police Regional Office-Cordillera revealed that Kelly, who was assigned at Itogon District Jail, was nabbed at Fr. Carlu Loop, Upper Session Road in Baguio City at about 10 p.m. of Sept. 3.

Seized from his possession were two objects wrapped with white cellophane suspected to be shabu weighing 7.51 grams valued P40,060; a sling bag; one black pistol holster; one caliber .9 mm Taurus pistol service firearm with one magazine containing 11 ammunitions; another magazine containing 13 ammunitions; and a P1,000 and P9,000 boodle money; and a cellular phone.

PRO-Cor reported that Kelly was a subject of a series of surveillance operation for the past few days until he was finally arrested.

“The PNP does not tolerate persons involved in drugs, much more, a member of the PNP organization or any other government agency, like the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology. Regardless of ranks, those who violate the law is not worthy to wear his/her uniform thus should be removed from the service. This is so because one of the important components of the anti-drug strategy of the government is internal cleansing,” said PRO-Cor Dir. Elmo Francis Sarona said.
