26th LGU, Brgy Day slated on Oct 10

Baguio will be celebrating the 26th Local Government and Barangay Day on Oct. 10 with the theme, “Sustaining service excellence in the barangays.”

Kicking off the celebration will be a parade along the main thoroughfares of Baguio with the different districts showcasing their talents through street dancing.

A program will follow at the Baguio Convention Center where Department of the Interior and Local Government Regional Director Marlo Iringan will be the guest of honor and speaker.

Highlighting the celebration is the awarding and recognition of the best performing barangays in the city.

Special awards will be given to barangays which include Most Child-Friendly Barangay, Best Senior Citizen Organization, Best Women’s Organization, Outstanding Barangay Peace and Order Council, Outstanding Lupong Tagapamayapa, Outstanding Barangay Nutrition Scholar, Outstanding Barangay Nutrition Council, Best in Sanitation, Cleanest and Greenest Barangay and Persons with Disability Friendly Barangay.

The barangays with special awards will be receiving plaques of recognition and P50,000 cash incentives each.

Winners of the photography contest, best in barangay craft and food fair, and district street dancing will also be announced and awarded during the program.

Presidential Proclamation 63 recognizes the important role of local government units in nation building and declared October of every year as Local Government Month and the 10th of October as Local Government Day.
