Consulate lauds role of Fil–Chinese in city

FOR PEACE AND UNITY -- The Filipino-Chinese community together with Baguio officials led by Mayor Mauricio Domogan and special guest Consul and Head of Post China Consulate in Laoag City Wang Jianqun graced the 16th commemoration of the Philippine-China Friendship Day on June 9 at the Baguio Centennial and Botanical Garden. -- Ofelia Empian

 

With the enduring friendship of the Philippines and China felt in Baguio, Consul and Head of Post China Consulate in Laoag City Wang Jianqun commended the various programs and assistance of the Filipino-Chinese community in the city through the years.

Jianqun, speaking during the 16th Philippine-China Friendship Day on June 9, commended the Filipino-Chinese community for coming up with fruitful programs during the commemoration of the partnership of the two countries.

“We all know that good state-to-state relations are based on the close friendly exchanges and understanding between peoples. What you have done for the past 16 years have certainly increased and consolidated the friendship and understanding between the Chinese and the Filipinos and have helped strengthen the friendly relations and cooperation between China and the Philippines at the national level,” Jianqun said.

During the event, the Filipino-Chinese community conducted a gift-sharing activity for persons with substance use disorder and their families.

Also, as a symbol of the enduring friendship of the Philippines and China, more improvement will soon be conducted at the Philippine-China Friendship Garden at the Botanical garden.

The various Filipino-Chinese community of the city, along with city officials led by Mayor Mauricio Domogan and Jianqun signed a memorandum of agreement for the further improvement of the “Friendship Garden.” 

The Friendship Garden was made possible through the support of the various Filipino-Chinese community and the Chinese Consulate in Laoag which contributed to its funding.

“This garden is a symbol of China-Philippines friendship. The garden is symbolic of how China and the Philippines reach out for each other and greatly value the importance of building friendship,” she said.

She also cited the gracing of President Rodrigo Duterte of the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation in Beijing, China last month where the two leaders “agreed to further develop the China-Philippines relations by adhering to good neighborliness and friendship as well as achieving win-win cooperation.”

The consul added that both countries are willing to promote the docking of bilateral development strategies and push for more achievements on the road of common development.

“It is my sincere wish and firm belief that the momentum in China-Philippines relations will remain strong and continues to grow stronger,” the consul said.
